Perfectly Ridiculous Comment for the Day

“Oh, I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well, I had heartburn during my third pregnancy so I know how you feel.”
That’s right, the woman just compared normal heartburn to my ulcerated stomach. It was in an email and I didn’t know how to respond to it. So you can understand my bafflement; let me tell you what it feels like… having felt both. It’s kind of like being stabbed in five different places at the exact same time, but the pain of the initial impact lasts for hours.
Trust me, it doesn’t feel related to heartburn in the least.

It is experiences like this that have taught me to just say, “I am sorry for what is happening. I can’t even imagine. Is there anything I can do to help?” It’s never beneficial or kind to reflect someone’s pain back on yourself because the likely-hood of having a comparable experience is quite low. So Emily, I am sorry for what is happening. I can’t even imagine what you are going through. Is there anything I can do to help?
P.S. Your continued cheerfulness is very inspiring and strengthening. Thank you.

That’s a very good way to go, Amy:)You are wise beyond your years… and just about anyone else’s years.
I want to say that typically it doesn’t produce this response in me.
This time I found it demeaning, like I went to the hospital for something that a couple of tums could have taken care of:( instead of what it was, something that would have kept getting worse and possibly cause permanent damage.
Just keep being you, woman. And find a way to see me… I’ll always be cheerful for the same reason you are; because the gospel’s true
