A Bittersweet Day
Posted by Emily on August 30, 2009
Much laughter was had at my stomach’s expense today at church. Why you ask? Because in the last week my tummy has pushed slightly out. I no longer have to get the angle and lighting just right to bring you a thicker waist, as with previous pictures.
Most wouldn’t notice this change, but there are a few who have been waiting for it and love to ask for a profile view whenever they see me. Typically they laugh about my “washboard” stomach for a few minutes after that because it’s hilarious to them that I could possibly be pregnant (all women that have had more than one baby). Today though my stomach met with a different kind of laughter. “AAAAHHHHHH, that’s so tiny and cute!” I was also met with others pointing it out, “Do you see Emily’s barely existing pregnant belly?” And a little more laughter. “You know that no one is going to think you’re pregnant until you’re like 6 months, right?” Ha, very comforting
So there you go. At 15 and 1/2 weeks I have finally gained weight (amazing what two pounds will do) and those that seek diligently, will find a little chubber.
Also, David accused me of sticking out my stomach when I was walking around after a shower. Nope, that’s just what it looks like now…. Then he jumped up and rubbed my belly

Ha ha ha – I love the “no one is going to think you’re pregnant until you’re like 6 months”… that’s totally me as well! I just hit 24 weeks, and only in the last week are people saying “are you pregnant?” And this is my third. So many people tell me I’m lucky, but actually I’m not (and, if you end up the same as me, neither are you). Why? Because it means baby is growing more in than out, squishing every organ and body part you have. Impossible to eat, breathe, or move without pain. I think I’d rather look like I’ve got a balloon stuffed under my shirt! I can still wear a looser fitting shirt and nobody would know there’s a baby under there. But because I’m a small person (like you), I can also where a maternity shirt that ties under the boobs and accentuates the stomach, and then people will start to wonder…

Here’s hoping I really pop soon, because I can definitely see what you’re saying and why it would be so much worse later, Terri-Ann. Already my stomach is very tender to the touch because everything is pushed up and down instead of out. It can be quite unpleasant to even have David put his hand on my abdomen. My midsection is also so stiff that I sometimes have a hard time sitting up to get out of bed, something I thought would happen a little further down the road!
I was actually thinking a couple of days ago that I should find some of those shirts. Not that just looking chunky isn’t charming…
